Biography
I am an artist specializing in murals, mixed-media paintings, and collage. I was raised in New Jersey, and lived in Boston and Los Angeles prior to moving to Portland, Oregon in 1991. I am largely self-taught, but I have pursued artistic interests all of my life, and taken many classes and workshops from prominent art professionals. My early interest in the design of the man-made environment led me to pursue a master’s degree in Urban Design and Community Development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after receiving my B.A. in Urban Studies at Tufts University.
While working in the urban transit and planning field for over 20 years, I engaged in a parallel pursuit of art. Now a full-time artist, I provide consultant services in arts program development in addition to painting, mural work and teaching. I have completed murals and art projects for a variety of commercial, non-profit and private residential clients, and have worked with schools as a Roster Artist for the Young Audiences program of Oregon and Southwest Washington. I have participated in numerous juried art shows and exhibitions in the Northwest, and I have been active in several arts organizations, including the Watercolor Society of Oregon (past President); Portland Open Studios; Indian Art Northwest, Homowo African Arts and Culture, and Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.
