WORKSHOPS
"Just Paper" -- Saturday, January 12, 1:00 - 5:00. Start your new year with fresh papers! This is an opportunity to color, texture, stamp and otherwise transform tissue, watercolor and other types of papers. Experiment with spray inks and an assortment of texturing tools. Bring acrylics, 1-2 sheets of 140 lb. watercolor paper, a small bottle of gloss medium and any papers you want to work with. Packs of tissue will be available for purchase. $35. Maximum 6
"Monoprint & Collage" --Saturday and Sunday January 19-20, 9:30-4:30. Expand your collage horizons in this concentrated 2-day venture. April Richardson, an outstanding artist from Seattle, brings her immense talent and skill (and her press) to share in making monoprints, both as stand-alone pieces of art and elements for collage. She uses primarily plant materials as imspiration and design components for printmaking. The collage-making will incorporate design principles and other techniques for enhancing and utilizing the prints. Printmaking and most collage materials are incuded. Bring a small bottle of gloss medium and any favorite papers or other materials. $180. Maximum 6.
"Special Techniques for Embellishment" -- Saturday, February 2, 9:00 - 12:00 -- Multnomah Art Center (Please contact M.A.C. at (503) 823-2787 to register). Discover new techniques for making transfers, assemblages and otehr objects that can be used to enhance personal artwork. Expand your repertoire while gaining new concepts of how to use these items to enhance composition. $29.
"Adventures in Abstract Collage" -- Saturday & Sunday, February 9-10, 10:00-5:00 -- The Art Department, 254 Commercial St. NE, Salem. (503) 364-7465. Dive in and have fun in this intensive 2-day collage workshop. Make your own unique collage materials by staining and texturing papers, along with learning easy techniques for image transfers and embellishments. The workshop includes exercises in abstract design and composition to flex your creative muscle. Some supplies included; a small supply list will be available prior to the workshop. $180. Maxiumum 8.
"Altered Photos and Image Transfers" -- Sunday, Februrary 24, 10:00-4:00 -- Currents Gallery, 532 NE 3rd St., McMinnville (503) 435-1316. Discover new ways to use images of all sorts in your artwork. Learn how to alter photographs and make a variety of image transfers using magazine pictures, inkjet prints and laser copies. While we will work primarily on paper, some techniques are suitable for fabrics as well. After making transfers we will try different ways of using them in combination with other materials. "Creative Design With Collage" -- Saturday, March 1, 10:00-5:00 -- The Art Department, Salem. Take your collage-making to a higher level with more design exercises and new techniques for ading depth, texture and dimension. Expand your repertoire while gaining new insight into how shape, texture, line and other elements work together to create interesting compositions. We will work on both matboard and canvas. $80.
